Wednesday Words of Wisdom

Hi! So I know I’m seriously slacking with blogging at the moment.. But I don’t think I was prepared for the amount of work I have to do for my Masters (Uh-oh). I’m getting there though. I thought I’d make this a more motivational post as that’s something I’m in need of right now. Here’s what I try and stick by in life:

1. Do not forget your roots.

2. If you’re nice to people, doors will open!

3. Have a dream – if you don’t have a goal, you’ll be wandering through life aimlessly.

4. Never moan or complain (if you can help it).

5.Don’t take life too seriously.

6. Do everything by the book – you must pay your own way in life.

7. If you make mistakes, try and look forward – it doesn’t do you well to dwell on the past.

8. Excellent manners don’t cost a damn thing!

9. Never compromise your family life to achieve your dream – family means everything (blood & extended).

10. Go out and do your best – that’s all you can do.

I know this was short and sweet, but sometimes we just need a positive reminder to give us a boost in the right direction. Let me know in the comments of any little sayings or anecdotes you like to live by!

And I promise (to you and myself) I will get back on top of my blogging game!

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice has been a heavily anticipated film. Franchises such as these always are; and in turn, the production companies (Warner Bros. in this case) always heavily anticipate the reviews and the gross income from the opening day, weekend, and week. I’m pretty sure Warner Bros. were more than pleased with the opening day which took $82million – yes you read that right. So is the film really that good?

Let’s start with the main characters, because that’s important to me: I’ve got to be honest, I was not happy about Ben Affleck replacing Christian Bale to begin with! I’m still not 100% convinced – probably just because I’m so used to Bale being Batman – but Affleck surprised me. Firstly, he clearly worked out, A LOT, for this role (I’m only human); and secondly, he perfected his brooding down to a T. Some critics have said there was too much brooding, but I personally feel like that is who Batman is! So maybe I could get used to Affleck as Batman. Henry Cavill returned to his role as Superman, which I have no complaints about. Man of Steel proved that Cavill could fill Superman’s boots, so he had nothing more to prove to me. Now, my favourite part about this film? Wonder Woman’s big-screen debut! Hallelujah, she’s finally arrived. And Warner Bros. could not have picked a better person for the role than Gal Gadot. She perfectly embodies the gorgeous, Amazonian woman that Wonder Woman is described as. I liked her a lot! She was sassy and not at all a damsel in distress. Thank you Warner Bros. for depicting a strong female role! I mean, I know it’s Wonder Woman and obviously she’s strong.. But I mean even other than her identity as Wonder Woman. I also have to acknowledge Jesse Eisenberg’s performance as Lex Luthor! He played the perfect psycho, even down to the little things like mannerisms and twitches. For me, he was a a great villain. I’m not gonna go as far as to say the best, because.. Heath Ledger as the Joker? Unbeatable in my eyes.

So, the film itself? I would never give a film with Batman AND Superman in lower than a 5/10, just based on the characters’ reputations. So, obviously, I had high expectations for this film. There are only a few issues I had.. It was 2 and a half hours long to begin with! And a lot of it just seemed to be a waste; for instance, why did we need to see the Wayne’s deaths, AGAIN? We already know Batman’s story.. I felt there could have been more Batman versus Superman scenarios, considering that’s the name of the film. However, there was definitely plenty of action and no one can¬†say this wasn’t an action packed film. On the flip side, some of the action was a little bit too CGI/special effects for my liking. I like good, old-fashioned fist fights! I cannot deny that the special effects were done perfectly though, I’ve got to give the production team credit for that. Other than these little nit-pickings, I really did enjoy the film. So overall, I’d probably rate Batman V Superman a 7/10.

Have any of you been to see it? What did you think? Let me know if you’d like to see more film/tv series reviews on my blog ūüôā

Inspirational Bloggers from 2015

I wanted to show recognition for my favourite bloggers over the last year who have inspired me to start my own blogging journey. The bloggers/vloggers that I mention are the ones that I follow religiously, on pretty much all social media and their websites.

Lydia Millen – lydiaelisemillen.com

I was first introduced to Lydia Millen on Sarah Ashcroft (That Pommie Girl)’s youtube channel. She is an amazing all-round blogger, as she writes about beauty, fashion, lifestyle, health and fitness, and most recently she has started doing home interior. Lydia’s writing is passionate and such a nice, relaxing read. She seems like such a genuine, down to earth girl which means her blog is relatable and gives you lots of inspiration. She also finds the best bargains and deals on designer handbags which is amazing if you’re looking for the perfect, timeless piece!

Poppy Deyes – poppydeyes.com

Poppy Deyes’ blog focuses a lot on photography, so she has some beautiful images. She has a background in fine art which explains why her blog revolves around her images and then uses writing for more detail. I came across Poppy’s blog when I was watching Zoella’s 24 days of Vlogmas, and I have kept up to date with her blog ever since! If I was ever going ¬†to have my own web design created, I would definitely use Poppy’s as inspiration because even though it’s simplistic it is really effective with her images.

I have followed Sarah Ashcroft on all social media platforms for the past year or 2 now. I feel like I have seen her progress so far that it gives me belief that I can achieve the same! Her blog focuses on beauty and fashion which is completely her niche! Her YouTube tutorials for different beauty look are my favourite videos to watch and try and recreate. I think Sarah is a perfect role model to all girls to just put themselves out there and conquer any insecurities. I would absolutely love to meet this girl as I think she would be such fun to be around.

Tanya Burr – tanyaburr.co.uk

Initially, I started watching Tanya Burr’s videos on YouTube, and then went on to start reading her blog. Both her vlogs and blogs are well though out and full of her bubbly personality. Glamour magazine featured Tanya as their cover girl for¬†their December 2015 issue, which just goes to show her massive achievements! Tanya is a trained makeup artist so I would 100% recommend her beauty tips and tutorials as she really knows what she’s talking about. My guilty pleasure is her videos with¬†Martha (her Dachshund) in, because I would love to have one of my own.

Zoella – zoella.co.uk

I had heard about Zoella a lot before I actually started reading her blog and watching her YouTube channel. I’d never been big on watching YouTubers, but now I’ve started I can’t stop! As I mentioned earlier, I watched all of Zoella’s Christmas videos (yes, on both of her channels) and have come to love her! She is so fun and sweet and puts so much effort into whatever she does. I think it is all the time and effort she puts in that has resulted in¬†her the massive success, which she completely deserves! You can find anything from beauty tips¬†or¬†style ideas to baking and DIY on her blog on YouTube channel.

What I Got for Christmas

img_1038.jpg

My two main presents for Christmas are what have allowed me to start¬†my own website. Firstly, I received the MacBook Air 11″ from my grandparents so I would be able to blog on the go, and have a¬†lightweight laptop to travel with. I previously used a Sony Vaio which was also amazing, but it isn’t really suitable for travel as it is quite weighty, and a lot bigger than my MacBook Air!

My second present, which is the crucial part in¬†allowing me to have my own space to write, is my own domain name. My elder sister sought help in finding the best place to get my domain name from, and decided to¬†use robynle.co.uk because robynle (in various forms) is my main social media platform username. My website uses Word Press as the platform for me to create content and pages and to choose my theme. I used Word Press when I was doing my degree so I’m quite comfortable using it, which makes starting my website a lot easier and a bit less daunting.

I’m happy that I’ve finally got around to starting my own website as it’s something I’ve thought about for years. The only thing that held me back is what other people would think and say about me doing it. I guess a lot of people feel this way, but I would encourage anyone to just go for it and stop caring what other people think!

Happy New Year!
