Wednesday Words of Wisdom

Hi! So I know I’m seriously slacking with blogging at the moment.. But I don’t think I was prepared for the amount of work I have to do for my Masters (Uh-oh). I’m getting there though. I thought I’d make this a more motivational post as that’s something I’m in need of right now. Here’s what I try and stick by in life:

1. Do not forget your roots.

2. If you’re nice to people, doors will open!

3. Have a dream – if you don’t have a goal, you’ll be wandering through life aimlessly.

4. Never moan or complain (if you can help it).

5.Don’t take life too seriously.

6. Do everything by the book – you must pay your own way in life.

7. If you make mistakes, try and look forward – it doesn’t do you well to dwell on the past.

8. Excellent manners don’t cost a damn thing!

9. Never compromise your family life to achieve your dream – family means everything (blood & extended).

10. Go out and do your best – that’s all you can do.

I know this was short and sweet, but sometimes we just need a positive reminder to give us a boost in the right direction. Let me know in the comments of any little sayings or anecdotes you like to live by!

And I promise (to you and myself) I will get back on top of my blogging game!

March Wish List

So, I’m 4 weeks into my shopping ban – I decided to give up shopping (clothes, shoes, bags, accessories) for lent because I am that bad. Although I’ve stuck at it, I have been doing a bit of window shopping!

Maison Valentino Rockstud Ballet Flats

I’ve been head over heels (excuse the pun) for the Maison Valentino Rockstud collection ever since its launch. Obviously, they are way out of my price range! But I am desperately seeking a dupe version – so if anyone knows of any good dupes, please let me know!

Timberland 6inch Premium Light Grey Nubuck Mono with White Outsole

Yes, another pair of shoes. What can I say? They’re my favourite thing to buy! Ever since I saw Hailey Baldwin in a pair of grey Timberland boots, I’ve wanted a pair. I love grey as it’s a neutral colour that goes with everything. It’s also a bit lighter which means these boots would be perfect for Spring! The only thing is that I prefer the Nellie Chukka boots, so I may hold out and see if they bring them out in the same colour. Also, these are £160 which I sadly can’t justify.. £120 (+student discount) for the Nellie Chukka boot, however, is a price I’m willing to pay.

Zoeva Rose Golden Vol.2 Complete Eye Set

I really am a sucker for pretty makeup brushes! I know in my last wishlist I mentioned the Real Techniques Bold Metals collection.. Now I’ve spotted this beautiful set of 12 eye brushes. I really want to up my eye makeup game and feel that a full set of brushes will help me do that, and I mean, you can never have too many eye brushes right?! Casually just talking myself into a £56.95 purchase..

#Girl Boss, Sophia Amoruso

Sophia Amoruso turned her hobby selling vintage clothing on eBay into Nasty Gal, one of the fastest growing companies in America. Her rise has been covered by major media like The New York TimesForbesFortune,Inc., and The Wall Street Journal, and she has a devoted following on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. This is the sort of woman that I want to take work advice from! Which is exactly why I want to get my hands on this book on pay day!

Leave Your Mark, Aliza Licht

So, another book! This one is a careers/mentorship book from Aliza Licht who is the Senior VP (Vice President) of Global Communications for Donna Karan International and the former voice behind the popular Twitter account DKNY PR GIRL. Another successful business woman, who I’m keen to take tips from. Seeing as I want to go into the PR/social media/content creation side of fashion and beauty, I think this book will be perfect for me.

Let me know in the comments if you have any of these and what you think, and please let me know if you know of some good Valentino dupes!

Achieving Your Goals

“A dream is just a dream. A goal is a dream with a plan and a deadline.” – Harvey Mackay.

After any sort of break from work or education, it is always hard to get back into the routine of organising yourself and completing deadlines. To get past this initial mind block of returning to work, here are my top tips:

Be OrganisedIMG_1265.jpgGet yourself a diary. And I mean the yearly planner kind, not a ‘dear diary’ kind. One of my resolutions this year is to actually use a diary to write down my deadlines and to schedule myself slots to work towards these deadlines. This means that I am less likely to leave my work until last minute – hopefully! I purchased myself this Santoro ‘Gorjuss’ diary back in September just because I though it was cute. Over the Christmas holidays I decided that it would come of use in 2016 as I wanted to get myself more organised than I previously have been with my work. On Christmas Day, I opened this motivational diary: “Do More of What Makes You Happy”. I absolutely love this quote and decided to make it another of my New Year’s resolutions, as it is something worth sticking to.

Be Creative

Plain, ordinary stationery is quite boring and therefore more likely to sit in your cupboard unused. However, I believe that if you purchase quirky stationery that you are excited by, you are more likely to use it. This means that you might pull your notebooks out once in a while to write down some thoughts, or ideas, that you’ve had. It doesn’t matter whether this is for work or for fun, you are still keeping your thoughts organised and will therefore be able to think clearer. Stationery is one of my guilty pleasures. I love any sort of unusual pens and pencils and motivational quotes on notebooks. Strange, maybe, but each to their own. As my close friends and family know this, I got two notebooks for Christmas. The first was off my sister, which says “Keep your face always toward the sunshine and shadows will fall behind you”. If this isn’t motivation to stay positive then I don’t know what is! I’ll be using this to plan my dissertation for my masters, to remind me that as long as I keep my eye on the prize, the struggles will be worth it! The second was off my best friend, Leus, which says “Stuff and other Nonsense”. I’m keeping this one next to my bed for any ideas I get for blog posts, which I will then plan out in this notebook.IMG_1264.jpg

Be Tidy

I am a firm believer of “a tidy room is a tidy mind”, especially if the room is the one that you will be working in. Any sort of mess is a distraction. Throw out any old notebooks, notes, letters, bills, etc. that you no longer need. Once your work space is tidy and cleared of clutter, you have room for new work. The same goes for if you use a computer for work, keep it tidy of files you don’t need.

I hope this helps you all get motivated to get stuck in to your work! Good luck for any goals you want to achieve in 2016!

Inspirational Bloggers from 2015

I wanted to show recognition for my favourite bloggers over the last year who have inspired me to start my own blogging journey. The bloggers/vloggers that I mention are the ones that I follow religiously, on pretty much all social media and their websites.

Lydia Millen –

I was first introduced to Lydia Millen on Sarah Ashcroft (That Pommie Girl)’s youtube channel. She is an amazing all-round blogger, as she writes about beauty, fashion, lifestyle, health and fitness, and most recently she has started doing home interior. Lydia’s writing is passionate and such a nice, relaxing read. She seems like such a genuine, down to earth girl which means her blog is relatable and gives you lots of inspiration. She also finds the best bargains and deals on designer handbags which is amazing if you’re looking for the perfect, timeless piece!

Poppy Deyes –

Poppy Deyes’ blog focuses a lot on photography, so she has some beautiful images. She has a background in fine art which explains why her blog revolves around her images and then uses writing for more detail. I came across Poppy’s blog when I was watching Zoella’s 24 days of Vlogmas, and I have kept up to date with her blog ever since! If I was ever going  to have my own web design created, I would definitely use Poppy’s as inspiration because even though it’s simplistic it is really effective with her images.

Sarah Ashcroft –

I have followed Sarah Ashcroft on all social media platforms for the past year or 2 now. I feel like I have seen her progress so far that it gives me belief that I can achieve the same! Her blog focuses on beauty and fashion which is completely her niche! Her YouTube tutorials for different beauty look are my favourite videos to watch and try and recreate. I think Sarah is a perfect role model to all girls to just put themselves out there and conquer any insecurities. I would absolutely love to meet this girl as I think she would be such fun to be around.

Tanya Burr –

Initially, I started watching Tanya Burr’s videos on YouTube, and then went on to start reading her blog. Both her vlogs and blogs are well though out and full of her bubbly personality. Glamour magazine featured Tanya as their cover girl for their December 2015 issue, which just goes to show her massive achievements! Tanya is a trained makeup artist so I would 100% recommend her beauty tips and tutorials as she really knows what she’s talking about. My guilty pleasure is her videos with Martha (her Dachshund) in, because I would love to have one of my own.

Zoella –

I had heard about Zoella a lot before I actually started reading her blog and watching her YouTube channel. I’d never been big on watching YouTubers, but now I’ve started I can’t stop! As I mentioned earlier, I watched all of Zoella’s Christmas videos (yes, on both of her channels) and have come to love her! She is so fun and sweet and puts so much effort into whatever she does. I think it is all the time and effort she puts in that has resulted in her the massive success, which she completely deserves! You can find anything from beauty tips or style ideas to baking and DIY on her blog on YouTube channel.

What I Got for Christmas

My two main presents for Christmas are what have allowed me to start my own website. Firstly, I received the MacBook Air 11″ from my grandparents so I would be able to blog on the go, and have a lightweight laptop to travel with. I previously used a Sony Vaio which was also amazing, but it isn’t really suitable for travel as it is quite weighty, and a lot bigger than my MacBook Air!

My second present, which is the crucial part in allowing me to have my own space to write, is my own domain name. My elder sister sought help in finding the best place to get my domain name from, and decided to use because robynle (in various forms) is my main social media platform username. My website uses Word Press as the platform for me to create content and pages and to choose my theme. I used Word Press when I was doing my degree so I’m quite comfortable using it, which makes starting my website a lot easier and a bit less daunting.

I’m happy that I’ve finally got around to starting my own website as it’s something I’ve thought about for years. The only thing that held me back is what other people would think and say about me doing it. I guess a lot of people feel this way, but I would encourage anyone to just go for it and stop caring what other people think!

Happy New Year!
